How fun is this picture? I really like Derek Sammak's artwork for a few reasons: 1) He is from New Jersey 2) He is young 3) It is just plain awesome. I am sure everyone in our classroom can relate to this painting;that awkward adolescent stage and singing Christmas songs about "my two front teeth." This is a well-done painting that brings back funny memories.

For some reason this painting reminds me of Chuck Close. The wide eyes and shoulder-up portrait style seems to be in line with his work, although it lacks his unique detail. I like this painting a lot because it feels very personal, like picture of my younger brother in middle school or something else equally informal. The composition and detail are well thought out, yet simple.
