Asia Del Bonis: Figure Drawing

I think that if one wants to know the fundamentals of drawing one must first learn the basics of figure drawing. The human body possesses basically every element that one would want in a drawing. A person's physique involves shapes, colors, shadows, stillness, and also movement, mood, and emotion. Taking a figure drawing class changed completely the way I approached any type of art project.
I was told that no matter how much time we had to sketch the human figure, to make sure that there is an idea of a whole person, not lacking any of the elements I mentioned previously. This forced me to quicken the process of sketching in general. It also helped me notice shapes within the body and later on in other animate and inanimate objects. Pictured above is a 10 minute pose oil pastel.
