I personally hate this piece but I think Duchamp's work pushes conventional notions of what art is. He believed that simply through the act of choosing already made objects and signing his name, he was creating "art." Although the word "art" consists of millions of various forms of creative expression, I wonder if there are/ should be boundaries to what can be considered art. I mean, Duchamp didn't really even construct anything in this piece, so I'm pretty skeptical as to whether he can claim it fully as his own artwork.
